GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot Star Melissa McCarthy Fully Supports Reitman’s Legacy Sequel

Read Time:1 Minute, 53 Second

It is always nice when people can support each other. Melissa McCarthy was the star of the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot. She, along with the rest of the cast, were the highlights of a messy and lazily plotted movie. The reaction (some warranted, and some not) made it seem like there would never be a sequel. But Sony wasn’t going to give up on one of its most popular franchises. That is why Jason Reitman – son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman – announced he is making a new film that takes place in the original universe.

When asked about Reitman’s new film, the always lovely McCarthy had nothing but wonderful things to say about it when interviewed by Entertainment Tonight. You can watch the video below.

“I’m for anybody who’s making movies. I talked to Jason about it, he’s just always had this idea, and his goes back to the world where the guys did exist and I’m like, ‘I want to see that,’ I’m all for it. I say like, ‘Tell the story.’ I think there’s a million stories to be told. He’s a really, really good filmmaker and a really good storyteller, so I will be there buying my ticket. I’m all for it.”

Her remarks stand in stark contrast to what her co-star Leslie Jones had to say about the Ghostbusters 3 legacy sequel when it was announced a few weeks ago.

While the 2016 film took place in an alternate universe, if you ask me there are ways to get the women cast into the Ghostbusters Prime Universe, and be able to cross them over. I don’t think that is what McCarthy was angling at here – I believe she was genuine. But depending on what the story for Reitman’s movie is, it could possibly happen in the next one. Especially if they throw more “dimensional” stuff in it.

Things are happening quickly for the new movie. While no cast has been revealed, a release date and teaser have already been announced, and the word on the street is that Reitman has begun meeting with actors about lead roles.

Ghostbust3rs: Whatever The Subtitle Will Be hits theaters July 10, 2020.
