Epic TOLKIEN Trailer Takes Us Inside The Mind of The Man Who Gave Us LORD OF THE RINGS
J.R.R Tolkien is a Lord of The Geeks, thanks to his legendary work as the author behind both The Hobbit and the Lord of The Rings books. As such, a film about his life was going to have a lot of pressure on it to properly capture the way he viewed the world and how his life inspired such fantastical tales of good, evil, love, friendship, loss, and triumph.
Thankfully, the first trailer for Tolkien– a film about the author’s formative years- captures all of the magic you’d hope to see in a film about the man who gave us The One Ring. Fox Searchlight has just dropped the first trailer for the film, which you can see here:
TOLKIEN explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the “fellowship” apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels.
It stars Nicholas Hoult as the titular author, and surrounds him with a supporting cast that consists of Lily Collins, Colm Meaney, Anthony Boyle, Patrick Gibson, Tom Glynn-Carney, Craig Roberts, Laura Donnelly, Genevieve O’Reilly, Pam Ferris and Derek Jacobi. It’s directed by Finnish filmmaker Dome Karukoski.
Tolkien arrives in theaters on May 10.
