Quinto Shares His Hopes For A STAR TREK 4

Read Time:2 Minute, 21 Second

Following the development of the next Star Trek film has been a touch confusing these last two years. From word that Quentin Tarantino had a pitch for one, to claims that as many as three different teams were working on three different versions of a Star Trek 4, to the latest bombshell that the film had been shelved, it’s been quite a ride.

But something that’s apparently been true all throughout this process is that actor Zachary Quinto wants to return. He wants to reprise his iconic role as Spock, which he inherited directly from Leonard Nimoy.

I mean, it’s been a broad conversation that we’ve been having for a while in terms of what’s the future of the franchise,” Quinto told Slashfilm over the weekend when asked for a status update on Star Trek 4. “It’s in process so I don’t know exactly what to say other than there’s no plans for a movie happening at this moment.

And while he’s basically confirming the recent reports that the film had been shelved for the time being, Quinto still sounds keen to do another film when the stars align.

I would love to,” he added. “I feel like it’s been an anchor of my creative life for the last over 10 years now so if I can go back to it, I’ll always be happy to. I love my Star Trek family so we’ll see how it goes.”

This comes nearly a year after Quinto pointed out how many variations of the next Star Trek film were being actively developed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada:

First of all, I think there’s a couple of scripts. Because there was a script being written before Quentin Tarantino came up with his idea for a potential film. And so I think they are kind of developing more than one. So I don’t know what is going to happen. Quentin is off doing another movie. So, I feel like we are in a state of anticipation. All of us are really excited about the idea of working with Quentin on a Trek film, but I know Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, who wrote the last film, are writing a script and there are another set of writers writing a script. So I don’t know. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

It should be noted that no official word has ever come out about whether or not Tarantino’s pitch ever turned into something usable, so we should file that one away in the backs of our minds, because depending on how it comes together it could very well become Star Trek 4.

How would you like to see the Star Trek movie franchise continue?
