New ALADDIN Teaser Shows Off Will Smith’s Genie

Read Time:1 Minute, 41 Second

Disney is making a bunch of live action remakes of their animated classics. We are getting three of them in 2019 alone (though The Lion King is more hyper-realistic CGI than “live action”). The Lion King teaser had a pretty great reaction. Same with the one for the live action version of Dumbo– which I think looks like Tim Burton’s crafted a beautifully emotional film. But everything we’ve seen of Aladdin has been divisive at best. Disney released a brand new “Special Look” at the movie, which you can watch below:

I mean, I’m not sure what people were expecting. This certainly looks like Aladdin. The aesthetics look like Agrabah, and just as he promised, Will Smith joined the Blue Man Group.

The reaction to this was mixed too, but what did you expect Will Smith to look like? People are being awfully hard on this, when we’ve seen less than 2 minutes of footage. Perhaps because the animated version is near and dear to their hearts. Spoilers: That film will still exist. This one has no bearing on it whatsoever.

It’s fine if this isn’t for you. But let the people who do enjoy it, do so. I bet the film will have more charm than we think.

Aladdin will hit theaters May 24th.

A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie, who brings his singular flair for fast-paced, visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah, “Aladdin” is written by John August and Ritchie based on Disney’s “Aladdin.” The film stars Will Smith as the Genie; Mena Massoud as Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar; Navid Negahban as the Sultan; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia; Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders; and Numan Acar as Hakim.
