Zendaya In Talks To Join Denis Villeneuve’s DUNE

Read Time:1 Minute, 57 Second

Hi. Nope, still no Batman here. No DC stuff either. Sorry. But there is some news about one of the best cast movies in decades. Will that get you to keep reading? Denis Villeneuve is making Dune. The stellar cast includes the likes of Oscar Isaac, Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, and MCU alums Dave Bautista, and Stellan Skarsgard. Well another MCU alum is joining the cast of the already stacked movie now: Zendaya.

Collider reports that Zendaya has been tapped to play Chani, the love interest of Timothée Chalamet’s character. It is expected that the character will have a larger role in the sequel, if a franchise is birthed from this. (I’m still bitter Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 didn’t spawn a sequel or 6…)

Villeneuve has written this adaptation in addition to directing. Both of those things will probably be great if you look at history. But one thing we know for sure is that Dune is one of the best cast movies of the 21st century.

I’ve been a fan of Villeneuve since 2016 when I picked my jaw off of the floor after having finished Arrival. Sicario was great too, but Arrival is truly something special. Then he followed that up with Blade Runner 2049, cementing himself in the lexicon of great movie directors.

Dune already had a movie adaptation once, from David Lynch. The synopsis for that movie can be seen below

In the year 10191, a spice called melange is the most valuable substance known in the universe, and its only source is the desert planet Arrakis. A royal decree awards Arrakis to Duke Leto Atreides and ousts his bitter enemies, the Harkonnens. However, when the Harkonnens violently seize back their fiefdom, it is up to Paul (Kyle MacLachlan), Leto’s son, to lead the Fremen, the natives of Arrakis, in a battle for control of the planet and its spice. Based on Frank Herbert’s epic novel.

This movie will be similar, but is said to be a closer adaptation to the book than Lynch’s was.

Even if you aren’t familiar with the book or the original movie, it is worth buying a ticket to see all these people on camera together.

Zendaya can be seen sooner than that, as she reprises her role as M.J. for Spider-Man: Far From Home in July.
