RTF EXCLUSIVE: ‘AVENGERS: ENDGAME- A Big Return And Another COMMUNITY Alum Cast!’

Read Time:3 Minute, 17 Second

In a couple of months we’ll get to see the second half of last year’s Marvel’s big “culmination event” when Avengers: Endgame comes out and finally answers some major questions left lingering at the end of Infinity War. And while we’re working on a Theory Spiral or two about how certain things will play out, I’ve got some casting information here that could be illuminating.

While theories may vary about how the Avengers are going to get themselves out of the mess they found themselves in during Infinity War, one thing seems to be accepted: It will involve time travel.

As such, this means we can expect to revisit some iconic moments in the MCU’s 11 year history, and even get to see some characters we thought we’d never see again. Today, I’m happy to share with you that I know one of the characters that falls into that latter category.

But before I mention who it is, let me first reveal a name on the cast list that does not require a spoiler warning.

Film and TV buffs have long enjoyed one of the subplots that directors Joe and Anthony Russo have woven into their Marvel films: “Which Community or Arrested Development character are they going to sneak in next?

You may recall that they managed to sneak Arrested Development‘s Tobias “Blue Man” Funke into Avengers: Infinity War last year. It was perhaps the most clever and covert of their easter eggs in these films, but it kept the tradition alive of the directors referencing their previous work in TV sitcoms.

Similarly, Community vets Abed Nadir and Jim Rash made quick cameos in both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War, respectively.

This time around, it looks like the Russos have tapped another actor from that cult hit sitcom to pop up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And that would be Ken Jeong.

Jeong is best known, outside of the Community fan base, for his work in The Hangover franchise, and he also once top-lined his own ABC sitcom, Dr. Ken. Similar to Nadir and Rash, I would expect his appearance to be more of a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo, so keep those eyes peeled when Avengers: Endgame arrives on April 26.

Now for the returning character, here’s your obligatory *SPOILERISH* warning. Since this is a character whose fate is well known and their return could count as a spoiler of sorts, please take this opportunity to click out of this story if that worries you (Maybe go read my Theory Spiral about Birds of Prey?).

.

Okay, still here? Cool.

It looks like we’ll be treated to a scene that features Rene Russo’s return as Queen Frigga of Asgard, the mother of Thor, and the wife of Odin.

Frigga was killed off during 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, so news of her return may surprise you. But it’s important to note that I have no context for what her role in the story will be. We may see her as part of the time-traveling exploits of our heroes, or maybe she’s glimpsed in the Soul World alongside other fallen figures from last year’s story.

Might she have something to say about Loki’s untimely death in Infinity War, or be able to offer up some sagely advice to Thor?

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens when Avengers: Endgame arrives in a few months.

For now, feel free to let your imaginations run wild in the Comment Section below. How do you think Frigga will factor into Endgame?
