Box Office: GLASS is Number 1 Again!
We are officially in the post-holiday / pre- March box office doldrums, when the number one doesn’t even break $20 million.
M Night Shyamalan’s Glass dropped a hefty 60% (!), but, with $19 million it was enough to take the top spot. It’s now at $73.5 million domestic. M Night will most likely have his sixth $100+ domestic grosser when all is said and done. With a budget of merely $20 million, which M footed himself, I’d say this Glass runneth over.
Staying put at number two The Upside, starring Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston, finished its third weekend with $12.2 million. That’s a decline of only 18.4% from last week. The domestic total is now an impressive $63.1 million.
Warner Bros / DC are still riding high on the success of Aquaman. The ruler of Atlantis brought in another $7.3 million raising its domestic take to a robust $316.5 million. Internationally Aquaman is at $1.09 billion, making it WB/DC’s highest grossing film to date!
Attack the Block director Joe Cornish’s The Kid Who Would be King tanked opening at number four with $7.2 million.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is holding on strong in the numb five spot with $6.1 million. It’s now at $169 million domestic.
Next week we get to see Gina Rodriguez kick some ass in a PG-13 fashion with Miss Bala. It seems like the type of flick that could surprise with a number one opening, or it could tank. We’ll have to wait and see.
