Nicolas Cage To Star In Adaptation Of H.P. Lovecraft’s COLOR OUT OF SPACE
Nicolas Cage is an actor who loves his craft. Because of that, he has turned out some weird and wonderful performances. Fresh off of voicing Spider-Man Noir (who should totally have his own TV show) in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, Cage has locked down his next project.
Variety got a hold of the press release that announced Cage starring in Color Out Of Space, a horror story based off an H. P. Lovecraft Novela. Here is a brief summary of the story:
“Color Out Of Space” centers on a family who moves to a remote farmstead in rural New England to escape the hustle of the 21st century when a meteorite crashes into their front yard, resulting in the land and the properties of space-time being infected with a strange, otherworldly color. To their horror, the family discovers that this alien force is gradually mutating every life form that it touches.
That sounds just like the right amount of absurd for Cage to really shine. The movie is being made by Elijah Wood’s company SpectreVision, the same company who produced Cage’s Mandy. In addition to Cage, Joely Richardson, Tommy Chong, Elliot Knight, Julian Hilliard, and Q’Orianka Kilcher will also star.
Richard Stanley is set to direct – his first film in over 20 years! He also co-wrote the script with Scarlett Amaris.
SpectreVision Producer Daniel Noah had this to say about the project:
“Lovecraft is the dark father of modern horror, and we have been searching for an adaptation that captures the true scope of his cosmic dread for years,” Noah said. “Richard Stanley — a wizard in his own right – will at long last bring Lovecraft’s humbling power to the screen unfiltered.”
Lovecraft’s stories are considered some of the most significant works of horror-fiction in the 20th Century. Many of his properties have been adapted to the screen, and it doesn’t look like it is stopping any time soon. Color Out Of Space is just the latest in a long line.
