Patty Jenkins Weighs In On Steve Trevor’s Return In WONDER WOMAN 1984

Read Time:1 Minute, 29 Second

Aside from being the sequel to one of the more critically acclaimed entries in the DCU thus far, there is one particular detail about Patty Jenkins’ upcoming Wonder Woman 1984 that has fans excited and a bit confused: Chris Pine is returning as Steve Trevor! In case you somehow forgot the ending of the first film, Diana’s guide and love interest laid down his life in a noble sacrifice to help ensure the end of World War 1 in the midst of the final battle. Pine himself mentioned late last year that the decision to bring Trevor back into the world of the living was planned while working on 2017’s Wonder Woman. Now Jenkins herself is weighing in on Pine’s return!

When asked about the character’s return in an interview with AM to DM, Jenkins teased, “It wasn’t a solution to “Oh god, that worked out, let’s try to jam you in there.’ It’s all incredibly important to the story. It makes perfect sense, that’s all I can tell you.

The 1980s is kind of mankind at their most extreme and at their best. It was when we could do anything we wanted and we had no idea about the price yet,” Jenkins added, transitioning over into the sequel’s titular time period. “So we have really committed to that version of the ’80s… it’s actually the most aspirational and elegant version of the ’80s.

While I’m still most excited to see what Matt Reeves eventually conjures up for his untitled Batman film, Jenkins has had me completely sold on this film for awhile now. I can’t wait to learn more about it as the year moves along and we shift closer into 2020.
