Edgar Wright is one of the best filmmakers working today. Whether you’ve seen the Cornetto Trilogy, Scott Pilgrim or Baby Driver, you can appreciate his attention to detail and his love for the craft. So when Wright announces his next movie, people listen.
He did just that, telling Empire magazine that his next flick is a female-lead psychological horror-thriller movie that takes place in the heart of London.
“I realized I had never made a film about central London – specifically Soho, somewhere I’ve spent a huge amount of time in the last 25 years. With Hot Fuzz and Shaun Of The Dead you make movies about places you’ve lived in. This movie is about the London I’ve existed in.”
Edgar Wright is currently working a documentary about the cult band Sparks. This should be the next thing after he is done with that. His last film – Baby Driver – was a critical and commercial success. He even has plans for a sequel, and now Empire found out that a script exists:
“A first draft of Baby Driver 2 exists,” he confirms, adding that it introduces a whole swathe of new characters following the original’s high body-count, and “takes the story further”.
The sequel will obviously not feature Kevin Spacey, for many reasons. But it sounds as if Baby might be the only character we know, and everyone else is new to add to the high body count.
Wright makes plenty of movies in a variety of different genres, I still spend time wondering what his Ant-Man movie would have been. While I am not huge on the horror/thriller genre, I am coming around. I am very excited for Jordan Peele’s Us, and look forward to Wright’s take on the genre too. Shaun Of The Dead had horror elements, but the comedy gave that move its charm. I’ll be in theater opening day for Baby Driver 2: Drive Faster or whatever the sequel ends up being as well.
