Rejoice, Arrowverse Fans: Jesse L. Martin Returns To THE FLASH
Veteran actor Jesse L. Martin has been with The Flash since its inception. I can’t ever see the show working without him to be honest, his heart-to-hearts with Barry are the essence of the show.
Martin had to step away from the show for a bit due to a back injury. But TVLine is reporting he will return full time in the shows 15th episode of the season. The show returns tomorrow with episode 10, so we still have little bit of time to wait to see him again. He was in the first 4 episodes of the season, but was always seen sitting or leaning against a wall.
As for the in-universe explanation of Joe West’s absence, showrunner Todd Helbing says things will be explained.
“There’s an explanation, and then there’s another sort of thing down the line that will give more explanation as to why [Joe] was gone for so long,”
That is industry speak for “I am going to say an impressive sounding sentence but tell you nothing. It is actually quite impressive. However, to his credit, Helbing does offer up a little bit of a detail they hint at us seeing Joe before episode 15:
“I’ll just say there’s some technology that S.T.A.R. Labs has [via which] he’s gone and he’s not gone at the same time.”
Martin and Tom Cavanagh are the two best actors on the show, and maybe in the entire Arrowverse. It is felt when they are missing, and the show would not be the same without them. It’s nice to see that Martin had recovered enough from his injury to continue filming.
The Flash returns January 15th, only on The CW.
Matching wits with The Thinker, who by season’s end had harnessed the powers of all twelve bus metas he created, stretched Team Flash to their limits, but with the help of some new allies, Barry Allen (aka The Flash) and company were able to put a stop to the Enlightenment and save Central City once again. However, with the arrival of Barry and Iris’ speedster daughter, Nora, who arrived from the future admitting to having made a “big mistake,” things are anything but status quo. Will parenthood be the challenge that finally slows The Flash down?
