While Star Wars fans wait for The Mandalorian and Episode IX to drop this year, there is a new Star Wars animated show happening right now to hold you over. Star Wars Resistance isn’t even done with its first season yet, and already has an order for a second season, StarWars.com reports.
The timeline on the second season should be an interesting one. See, a trailer for the midseason premiere (returning on January 13th) was just released, and it should have a familiar scene in there for everyone who has seen The Force Awakens.
While the original synopsis for the show said that it would take place before the events of The Force Awakens, it seems that we have officially caught up to it in the second half of the first season.
I haven’t watched the show yet, but the inclusion of BB-8 here is a bit confusing if things are running concurrently with The Force Awakens, as we know BB-8 was busy doing other things with Finn and Rey. Maybe there will be a quick scene where Poe Dameron comes to pick his droid up because he has a mission on Jakku, and that begins the overlap.
But that means the second season has to bleed into the events of The Last Jedi right? I mean that movie starts almost immediately after The Force Awakens ends. If season 1 gets deep into The Force Awakens, surely season 2 will show the team during the events of The Last Jedi?
Star Wars Resistance will return January 13th. The second season will premiere in the fall.
Set prior to the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars Resistance follows Kazuda Xiono (“Kaz”), a young pilot recruited by the Resistance for a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order. Fast and fun, the series features a colorful and vibrant anime-inspired look, and has introduced many new heroes and villains to the saga.
