Box Office: AQUAMAN Sits Atop His Throne For A 3rd Straight Week!

Since the holidays are officially over, it’s time to get back to work. First order of business? The weekend box office!

DC/Warner Bros finally have something to brag about as Aquaman continues its reign at the box office. That’s right, the Atlantean has been in the top spot since it opened the week of Christmas! Bringing in another $30.7 million, it’s now at $259.7 million domestic. Internationally Aquaman has brought in an astounding $940.7 million, making it the highest grossing film worldwide in the DCEU. Expect it to be the first DCEU to cross the $1 billion mark soon!

In the second spot is Sony’s Escape Room. The horror flick earned an impressive $18 million in its first weekend, doubling its production budget and placing itself firmly in the hit column.

Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns continued to impress family audiences with a third place finish and $15.7 million. Its total domestic take is at $138.7 million.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has the distinction of being the only movie in the top five I got to see during the holidays. Believe the hype, this one is as good as you’ve heard. If you haven’t seen it, you need to. Right now. It managed another $13 million, and is now at $133.8 million domestic.

Rounding out the top five is Bumblebee with $12.7 million. It’s at $97.1 million domestic. Bumblebee also finally opened in China and took the number one spot there with $59.4 million.
