CRAZY RICH ASIANS and OCEAN’S 8 Star Awkwafina Joins JUMANJI Sequel

Read Time:1 Minute, 17 Second

Back in the summer, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson started up the hype machine for the still-untitled sequel to 2017’s surprise hit Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. First he officially announced that the film was “underway” and then revealed the film’s release date on December 13th at the end of this year. Since then, things have been a bit quiet for the film as we crossed over from the second half of 2018 and into the start of 2019. Now an exciting update has hit the Internet!

THR reports that Crazy Rich Asians breakout rapper-turned-actor Awkwafina is in talks to join the third Jumanji film. While details on her character and the film’s overall story are under wraps, the site adds that Awkwafina’s role is “key” and “significant” to the film. As previously reported, Welcome to the Jungle‘s principal stars Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart and Jack Black are all set to also reprise their roles.

Admittedly I missed out on seeing Crazy Rich Asians and Awkwafina’s other breakout role last year in Ocean’s 8, but it seems that she’s rapidly ascending in the Hollywood scene and is set to appear in two upcoming indie films at Sundance later this month (The Farewell and Paradise Hills). Hopefully I’ll be able to check out her performance in Crazy Rich Asians soon.
