James Wan Confirms Plot Details For THE CONJURING 3
With the impending release of Aquaman, a film that our Editor-In-Chief MFR enjoyed very much, James Wan is doing his press rounds. But as you should know, the topic will never be limited to just what is currently coming out. Everyone will always look to the future too. So naturally, Wan discussed another franchise he is involved with: The Conjuring. With a ton of sequels and spinoffs already in the bag, The Conjuring 3 is next up.
Wan talked to Bloody-Disgusting about what the sequel will offer. The franchise is based off of real-life case files from Ed and Lorraine Warren, and while the spinoffs can get away from that a bit, the “mothership” as Wan calls The Conjuring films, will always use those as inspiration.
“It’s important that the mothership stays true to the inspiration of the real people. The spinoffs are where we get to have more fun and do weird and wonderful crazy things.“
He then got a little more specific:
“It’s not necessarily based on an artifact but it’s based on one of the Warrens’ case files… It’s this guy who was on trial for committing a murder. I think it’s the first time in America’s history where the defendant used possessions as a reason, as an excuse.”
So for people who like the more reality based stories, The Conjuring 3 seems to be going back to that – as much as this franchise can anyway. Annabelle and The Nun movies get a bit stranger.
Michael Chaves is directing this chapter, taking the reins from Wan, who is still involved in some capacity. It is worth wondering how involved he will be. He is no longer involved in the Resident Evil reboot, and doesn’t really seem interested in taking a larger role over at DC. So it’s curious as to what he will do next.
The Conjuring 3 is slated to hit theaters September 11, 2020.
