In case you missed it, Warner Bros. released the terrific second trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters earlier this week depicting an apocalyptic monster mash between the titular kaiju and longtime nemesis King Ghidorah. Between this latest trailer and the first trailer that premiered back at San Diego Comic Con 2018, the upcoming Godzilla film is shaping up to be one of 2019’s most promising blockbusters to me. Naturally with a new trailer comes a new set of posters to put up in theater lobbies.
Director Michael Dougherty revealed three new posters for the film on his Twitter account, each one showing off one of the three newcomer kaiju to the film (King Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan). Aside from the visual flair that these posters all show off, Dougherty also opted to pair each poster with an appropriate quote from the Holy Bible’s Book of Revelations. You can see all three posters below:
As mentioned above, Dougherty quotes from three different verses in the Book of Revelations in these Tweets, which fits the stunning and clearly apocalyptic threats seen in the trailers. After all, these kaiju come off less as giant monsters and more as godlike heralds of Nature itself. We’ve already seen a city be decimated just from the sheer gust of Rodan flying over it and King Ghidorah leveling Washington D.C. to the ground in what appeared to be some sort of bizarre storm, after all. Quoting the Bible here might seem pretentious to some, but it feels all too appropriate for this film.
