Variety is reporting that Joel McHale has been cast as Starman in DC Universe’s Stargirl.
Here’s a little on Starman courtesy of Variety:
A courageous and confident superhero, Starman is a member of the Justice Society of America. He wields a mysterious anti-gravity weapon called the cosmic staff and has a longtime sidekick named Stripesy, who is better known as Courtney Whitmore’s stepfather, Pat Dugan.
I’ve been a fan of McHale’s for years. I first saw him on The Soup on E! and then he went on to Star in NBC’s Community, which is easily in my top five TV shows of all time. I even watched The Joel McHale show on Netflix and was probably a little too disappointed when it got cancelled. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to seeing him weekly on TV again.
Stargirl centers on Courteney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger), a high school sophomore who inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past.
Stargirl was the first creation of legendary comic book writer Geoff Johns, who based the character on his deceased sister. Johns will write the first episode as well as serve as show runner. Greg Berlanti (CW’s DC Arrowverse) will executive produce along with Johns and Sarah Schechter.
