Deadline is confirming last week’s rumor that Ian Ziering has joined the cast of DC’s James Wan produced Swamp Thing. This is either very good news, or very “meh” news, depending on how you feel about Zering.
I know most of the younger crowd will know Zering from SyFy’s Sharknado movies, but I’m old, so I always think of him in terms of Beverly Hills 90210, a show I’m proud to say I’ve never seen a full episode of.
Ziering will be playing Daniel Cassidy, a stuntman turned movie star who rose to prominence playing a demonic character named Blue Devil. Now, eight years later, he’s lamenting his transformation into a has-been actor and longs for his glory days. This is quite a bit different than his comic book origin, which involves becoming permanently bonded to his Blue Devil suit during an occult mix-up. But maybe they’re introduce that sort of element later on in the series.
Len Wiseman (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard) is directing the first episode, which was written by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman.
Here’s the synopsis:
“Swamp Thing follows Abby Arcane (Reed) as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.”
Swamp Thing is headed to DC’s streaming platform DC Universe sometime in 2019.
Although Deadline is “officially” reporting the news of Ziering joining the show, it should be noted that our buddy Kellvin Chavez over at The Splash Report actually broke this news a week ago.
