DOCTOR STRANGE 2 Is Happening With Scott Derrickson Back To Direct

Read Time:1 Minute, 46 Second

Marvel has been hard pressed to let us know anything happening beyond Avengers: Endgame. We know Spider-Man: Far From Home is coming, along with Black Panther 2. While we all assumed their other heroes will get new movies, their fate in Avengers: Infinity War muddled that a little bit. But don’t worry, we can add the Sorcerer Supreme to that list. Doctor Strange 2 is officially happening, with Scott Derrickson returning to the helm.

The Hollywood Reporter has the story. Derrickson is officially returning, but no writer has been chosen for the script yet. Both Benedicts will return, with Cumberbatch and Wong reprising their roles as Doctor Strange and Wong respectively. Rachel McAdams is expected to return as well. The way the last movie ended, I wouldn’t be surprised if Chiwetel Ejiofor returned as the villain Baron Mordo for the sequel too.

Of course, the last time we saw Doctor Strange was when he disintegrated after Thanos snapped. So the events of Endgame will be crucial in setting up this sequel. That is of course unless this takes place pre-Infinity War, but I doubt it. The good thing is, by the time the promotion circuit comes around for this movie, the events of Endgame will be very well known, so they won’t have to pretend like they are doing with Spider-Man: Far From Home.

I very much enjoyed the first Doctor Strange movie. The movie had a ton of moments that would have been hard to capture on camera, but Derrickson did an excellent job bringing those moments to life. The movie is the magical version of Iron Man if you think about it, but let’s hope the sequel doesn’t match up with Iron Man 2. I wonder if the sequel will be as self contained as the first one, or if someone like Ant-Man will join him to explore more realms. The great thing with the MCU is anyone can be in anyone else’s movie, especially now that they all have a common experience in Thanos.

Doctor Strange 2 is expected to hit the summer of 2021.
