Jake Gyllenhaal To Star In Remake Of Danish Thriller THE GUILTY

Easily one of the top actors of his generation, things are looking pretty great for Jake Gyllenhaal these days. While he might not be in the running to play Batman anymore, comic fans are still excited to see him star as Mysterio in next year’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. Other projects, such as an adaptation of video game The Division, are also on the way! Now another promising project is on the horizon for Gyllenhaal.

Variety reports that Gyllenhaal, alongside Bold Films and Riva Marker’s Nine Stories, has recently acquired the rights to remake this year’s critically acclaimed Danish thriller The Guilty, a film about a disgraced and demoted cop trying to save a kidnapped woman via the emergency call center.

The original film’s co-writer and director Gustav Möller and producer Lina Flint are set to serve as executive producers. The original film won the world cinema audience award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is also set to be Denmark’s foreign language Oscar entry.

Gyllenhaal and Marker stated: “We saw ‘The Guilty’ at Sundance and were blown away. Möller’s film masterfully weaves tension into an acute character study, and is exactly the kind of material that Nine Stories is excited to develop. We are honored to be able to adapt it for American audiences alongside Bold Films.

We are thrilled to acquire this great IP for Jake,” Bold Films chairman Michel Litvak said. “It’s a terrific vehicle for him to craft a super taut, elevated thriller.

Flint added, “We are super excited about this collaboration and we look very much forward to continue the amazing journey with ‘The Guilty.’

Considering the premise, I’m excited to see Gyllenhaal in this new adaptation of The Guilty. Without having seen the original for myself, I think his style of acting will really shine in this sort of film.
