Margot Robbie Wants To See Poison Ivy In A Future Film With Harley Quinn

Read Time:1 Minute, 52 Second

Fans have had to wait for a while now, but finally the main cast for Cathy Yan’s upcoming Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is set as the film’s production draws closer and closer. The film will see Margot Robbie reprise the fan-favorite role of Harley Quinn and also introduce audiences to a number of fan-favorite DC characters like Black Canary, the Huntress and Cassandra Cain. Even Black Mask will appear in the film! One character that fans likely won’t be seeing in Birds of Prey though is Dr. Pamela Ivy, more commonly known as Poison Ivy. She’s also known as Harley’s longtime girlfriend or even wife, depending on which timeline you look at in modern DC Comics.

As it turns out, Robbie wants to see Harley and Ivy interact on the big screen together herself! The topic of Harley’s sexuality and romance with Ivy recently came up in an interview with PrideSource. Robbie said, “Yeah. If you read the comics you know that Poison Ivy and Harley have an intimate relationship. In some comics they convey it as a friendship; in other comics you can see that they’re actually sexually involved as a couple. I’ve been trying to – I would love to have Poison Ivy thrown into the universe, because the Harley and Poison Ivy relationship is one of my favorite aspects of the comics, so I’m looking to explore that on screen.

When asked if she had any ideas for who could play Ivy, Robbie answered, “You know what? I’ve thought about it a lot and there’s no one person who springs to mind. I’m pretty open-minded.

Personally speaking I’m quite happy to hear that Robbie is interested in bringing Ivy back to the big screen. Harley’s relationship with the Joker may be more famous to casual audiences, but the history she’s had with Ivy goes back almost as far. Some of Harley’s best moments in Batman: The Animated Series are with Ivy and the decision to showcase that dynamic in a more openly romantic manner in recent comics has generally been met with a warm reception.
