Even if you’ve never read the books, Artemis Fowl is one of those properties you’ve at least heard mentioned in the zeitgeist for pop culture. A lot of kids had to read Eoin Colfer’s book in school. I wish there was a statistic to see how many book reports have been done on it. Well, a property that dominant, had to be getting the movie treatment soon, because a recognizable brand has money to be made from it. And who better to do that than Disney?
You can watch the teaser for Artemis Fowl below:
While this is just a teaser trailer, it gives a good feel for what the world will look like on screen. Disney is obviously smelling franchise here, so anything they release is because they are playing the long game.
I never really got into the franchise, but am somewhat familiar with it. Having Kenneth Branagh attached is definitely a positive in my book. Artemis Fowl stars Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Tamara Smart, and Nonzo Anozie. Some big names are attached too, like Disney and Branagh collaborator Josh Gad, and the legendary Judi Dench.
If that wasn’t enough, we also have a brand new poster.
Disney launched their Wrinkle In Time franchise this year, but there has been no word on a sequel. I’d be willing to be they are hoping Fowl has a different path. I’ll need to see more, because I have no attachment to the property, and the teaser didn’t quite do it for me.
Disney’s Artemis Fowl hits theaters on August 9, 2019.
