Egerton Talks Future Hopes For The KINGSMAN Franchise, Laments Reaction To THE GOLDEN CIRCLE
Kingsman is a franchise that will soon be massively expanding. The first movie was an incredible action/adventure flick, and while the second one was a bit less warmly received, it still had its fun moments.
Well the next installment is gearing up to film, but franchise star Taron Egerton says he isn’t in. The reason for that is simple – it’s a prequel potentially starring Ralph Fiennes.
Egerton goes on to mention that he is not finished play Eggsy. We will see him suit up again. While on the Empire movie podcast, he comments on the reaction to the second chapter, and what he wants from the future of the franchise.
“I would like the third one to be better received than the second one was. I thought we got a bit of an unfair kicking, if I’m totally honest. [I] think in some respects it was [difficult] because I just gave everything to it. And then it was so quickly torn down. I did feel a bit of a sting.
I think in some respects it wasn’t a quite as well put together film as the first one but it certainly wasn’t a bad film. I think what I would like to happen is for us to do a third one and for it to feel like a worthy third installment to what has been a great part of my life.
And then my dream for it would be that I would kind hang up my suit for 10, 15 years and then come back and pass the mantle on. That’s what I’d like to do. I think that would be fun. But we would have to take a step away for it for a while before we did that.”
So not only does Egerton want to make a third one to complete the trilogy, but he is already planning a legacy-quel. Kingsman: The Suit Awakens. The whole movie will be about trying to find Eggsy, until our protagonist finds him in the very last scene and the movie ends with her holding out an umbrella for him to take. Hire me, Matthew Vaughn. We have the same initials.
Whatever ends up happening, rest assured, there is a ton more Kingsman (and Statesman) coming. So you’ll have plenty of opportunity to remember that manners maketh man.
