Ruby Rose Talks BATWOMAN As New ELSEWORLDS Image Hits Net
Over the past week fans of the Arrowverse have been getting teases and glimpses of this year’s crossover event, Elseworlds. Short previews of Grant Gustin as Green Arrow, and Stephen Amell as the Flash have hit the net over the past few days, and now thanks to Entertainment Weekly we get an additional look of the newest hero to join the trinity, Batwoman.
The newest image is just moments after Batwoman has taken down a couple of Arkham inmates using her grapnel gun and batarangs. Director James Bradford was on hand for the filming of the scene to comment:
“I wanted all of the bat toys to be revealed in one scene,” said the director of the crossover’s Arrow hour.
Consulting producer Marc Guggenheim added this, about the character’s similarities to a certain Dark Knight: “She’s a lot like Batman in the sense that she’s kind of a d**k. Ruby’s amazing. She brings such a different color and tone. She will interact with our heroes both as Batwoman and as Kate Kane, so you’ll see both sides of that character and that performance.”
At this, actress Ruby Rose who plays the character, added “[Kate] is more fun because she’s a billionaire, she has ladies that love her. I think, for the most part crossover-wise, she’s swaggy. She always knew who she was, but she’s really coming into knowing who she is in the crossover, and with Batwoman as well. It’s not the first time she’s put on the suit.”
Kate Kane/Batwoman’s goals are purposely shrouded in mystery for later development in a potential solo series on the network bringing the tally up to six shows. Rose explained the character’s reluctance to help the trinity and focus on her own goals.
“Kate does not want to deal with this. She has a whole other agenda, a whole other life that she’s trying to sort out right now, and these frigging superheroes come in and they’re a mess, and they need her help,” Rose told Entertainment Weekly.
When the above image arrived online yesterday, many were quick to proclaim that her suit is one of the very best in all of Superhero TV. How does Rose feel about the suit? “It’s a strange feeling to put on a suit like this that has been custom made for you knowing that it’s going to transform you into a character that does amazing things,” she revealed. “You feel very empowered and it just instantly changes everything you feel in that moment.”
Who would have assumed over at the CW back in 2012 that their newest superhero show would help to launch 5 additional DC shows, 3 in universe animated movies, breathe new life into NBC’s short-lived Constantine series, and if rumors are to be believed it will fold CBS’s Flash and The WB/CW’s Smallville into this shared universe. Not bad at all for a network often considered the red headed step child of the major broadcast networks.
The Elseworlds crossover event will premier its first episode in the 3-night event on Sunday December 9th and run through until Tuesday December 11. Come back weekly for our weekly Tales of the DC MulTVerse.
