STAR WARS: Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor Will Return For ROGUE ONE Prequel TV Series

Read Time:1 Minute, 45 Second

With the news that Marvel Studios was working on shows about characters like Loki and Scarlet Witch for Disney’s upcoming streaming service and Jon Favreau working on his upcoming series The Mandalorian, it was only a matter of time before another Star Wars live action series was announced. That moment has now arrived.

Lucasfilm announced that actor Diego Luna will reprise his role of Cassian Andor from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in a new prequel series for the upcoming streaming service Disney+. Described as a “rousing spy thriller” that “follows the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion” and “will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.

Luna stated, “Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me. I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.

Personally I’m actually rather excited by this news! While I think the common criticisms that Rogue One‘s cast wasn’t particularly memorable were accurate, I always thought that Cassian was the most intriguing member of the doomed squad with the various implications of his past. I can definitely see fans taking a stronger liking to Cassian as a result of this upcoming show giving him more time and focus to develop as an individual character.

Frankly, I actually think these new series meant for Disney’s new streaming service are probably the best way to tell stories about pre-existing characters, rather than dedicating full-on blockbuster films for them. Heck, if that’s what it takes to get Obi-Wan’s story on Tatooine between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope told, I’d be happy to see that route taken as well.

However those are just my personal thoughts! What do you think about this news? Be sure to contribute to the conversation down below!
