Back in September, news broke out that Marvel Studios was working on multiple “limited” television series set in the MCU that focused on characters such as Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch for the upcoming Disney+ streaming service. Along with the announcement that Lucasfilm is working on a prequel series about Rogue One‘s Cassian Andor, Disney confirmed that the aforementioned Loki series is indeed in the works.
Beyond that, nothing else is currently known for sure about the Loki series. I have to wonder when this series will be set in the MCU timeline. Loki’s death in Avengers: Infinity War felt quite final to me and I’m hard pressed to think of an appropriate storyline for the character prior in the timeline.
My fellow RTF writer Matt Vernier previously suggested the idea of exploring Loki’s time in-between the first Thor film and The Avengers, but as he pointed out at the time, that route would likely confuse some audiences. We’ll see what happens.
That said, whatever the story ends up being, it’s hard to say “No” to more of Tom Hiddleston’s acting. The man’s quite a good actor and has been iconic in the role of Loki. So long as the show is written well, I’m confident fans will wind up enjoying an extended visit into Loki’s life and personal journey.
