Ron Howard Open To Directing Another STAR WARS Film

Read Time:1 Minute, 40 Second

For the first time in three years, this Christmas season will come and go without a new Star Wars film being released on the big screen. Oscar-winning filmmaker Ron Howard’s Solo: A Star Wars Story hit theaters back in May and ultimately under-performed at the box office. Not that the film was necessarily bad, but Solo was a step backwards financially for Lucasfilm. Still Howard himself is open to having another go at the Galaxy Far, Far Away!

In an interview with Metro.co.uk, Howard confirmed that he would be happy to direct another Star Wars film. He said, “I had a great experience with that. It would depend entirely on the story.

It’s hardly surprising. Howard’s been a part of the Lucasfilm family for many years now and now his daughter Bryce Dallas Howard is set to direct one of the episodes for the upcoming Disney streaming service show The Mandalorian. Howard also mentioned that his daughter is “thrilled” to be involved. He added, “She’s having a great experience. So I’m kind of living through it again through her. It’s just a creative, inspired group of movie lovers who make those projects.

While Solo had its share of flaws, I quite enjoyed what Howard brought to the film and personally would be happy to see him return to the franchise. Though I’d agree with Howard that it really would depend on the story of the film. Aside from an Obi-Wan Kenobi film, I doubt most fans have much interest in seeing prequel films for our favorite characters in the existing Saga films.

Also, when you consider what a great job he managed to do with Solo, a film he inherited after its directors were fired, it’s not a stretch to think that he could make an even better Star Wars movie if he were able to build it from the ground up.
