Veteran Character Actor Will Patton Joins Cast Of SWAMP THING

Read Time:1 Minute, 18 Second

It’s been a while since we last heard anything about DC Universe‘s upcoming Swamp Thing series, hasn’t it? A while back actress Crystal Reed landed the role of Abby Arcane and a rumor came out that Derek Mears was set to play the titular creature in the show, but hardly anything else has come up since. Thankfully more casting news has finally hit the Internet!

Deadline reports that actor Will Patton has joined the cast as a lead role opposite Reed. The role is none other than Avery Sunderland, “the most prominent businessman” in the show’s small Louisiana town and swamp setting. Yet beneath Sunderland’s kind and giving mask is a ruthless profiteer, as is typically the case in these sorts of stories.

Genre character archetypes aside, Patton seems like a solid choice to play Sunderland. I quite enjoyed his performance as Deputy Frank Hawkins in David Gordon Green’s recent Halloween sequel and remember listening to his audiobook reading for Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep a few years back. Patton’s voice has a very distinctive grit to it that I think really suits the horror genre and Southern setting for Swamp Thing.

With this news of Patton’s casting out and about, I suspect that it won’t be long before fans start getting more casting news as production for the DC Universe show’s first season gets ready to launch.

What do you think about Patton’s casting? Do you believe that someone else should have been picked for the role? Be sure to leave your thoughts on the matter in the comments section below!
