Martin Lawrence Has Officially Signed On For BAD BOYS FOR LIFE
Bad Boys has been ripe for a third movie for a while now. It looked like things were moving along when Joe Carnahan was set to film 3 and 4 back to back. But that didn’t happen, and the project was shelved once again.
Then it was resuscitated yet again – this time with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Snowfall) at the helm. They were locked in, as well as writer Chris Bremmer, and star Will Smith. But one piece wasn’t certain – Martin Lawrence. Fans can rest easy now though, as Martin Lawrence has officially signed on to Bad Boys 3, aka Bad Boys For Life.
Those are the only two pieces you need. The movie doesn’t work with just one. While it would be nice to get some of the supporting cast to return, it isn’t necessary.
It will be interesting to see what the franchise can be outside of explosion-happy Michael Bay’s hands.
Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch had commented on Bad Boys For Life in the past, saying: “If we’re going to make another ‘Bad Boys’ after 15 years, it’s got to be next-level great.” He’s right. It’s not exactly a movie that people are absolutely clamoring for, so if it is going to survive in today’s movie landscape, it needs to be great. It needs to earn its spot at the box office.
There is potential here for the 90’s Box Office King to reclaim his throne. Will Smith has been busy, but he hasn’t made an impact on the box office like he used to. Bad Boys For Life could change that. He will definitely be on top with Aladdin, but that is a different situation.
What intrigues me is if Gabrielle Union will have a role in the film. She played Martin Lawrence’s character’s sister, DEA Agent Sydney Burnett. She is getting her own spinoff called L.A.’s Finest on TV, with Jessica Alba. I hope Union is involved in the film, and that there will be a bit more connective tissue to the TV show. I highly doubt Lawrence and Smith will appear on the show, but you never know. At the very least, there needs to be a throwaway line that Agent Burnett is in LA, and can’t help her brother in Miami.
What are your expectations for Bad Boys For Life?
