Why Did Netflix Cancel LUKE CAGE?

Read Time:1 Minute, 11 Second

Another weekend, another Marvel series cancelled by Netflix. The streaming service announced in a joint statement with Marvel the other day that Luke Cage would not be returning for a third season, just a week after a similar announcement was released that they were pulling the plug on Iron Fist. Unsurprisingly, fans online were quite stunned by this development. So why did The Powers That Be pull the plug on Luke Cage?

THR reports that one of their sources cited “creative differences and the inability to agree to terms for a third season of the show.” Whether or not viewership figures were also a factor in the show’s cancellation remain unknown, as THR noted that “Netflix doesn’t release viewership figures for its content.

On the bright side, although the double whammy of axing Luke Cage and Iron Fist has had fans of the other Marvel shows on Netflix concerned, THR added that “Daredevil, Jessica Jones and The Punisher, however, are set to remain on Netflix for the time being under terms of the original deal.

Seeing as how Marvel Studios currently work with Hulu on another show (Runaways), the obvious guess is that fans will get to see both Luke and Danny Rand again on that streaming service or at least resurface via guest appearances on the surviving Netflix shows.
