Mark Ruffalo To Star As Twins In New HBO Limited Series
It’s worth remembering from time to time that Mark Ruffalo isn’t just everyone’s favorite living meme of MCU spoilers. Aside from his role as the current Incredible Hulk, Ruffalo is a rather prolific dramatic actor with quite an impressive resumé that includes films such as David Fincher’s Zodiac, Rian Johnson’s The Brothers Bloom and Michael Mann’s Collateral. Now Ruffalo is gearing up for another promising gig with HBO.
Ruffalo is reportedly set to star and executive produce in the upcoming HBO limited series I Know This Much Is True, a six episode long adaptation of Wally Lamb’s best-selling novel with the same name. What makes this particular project so exciting though is that Ruffalo won’t just be starring in one role. Instead the actor will star as a pair of twin brothers named Dominick and Thomas Birdsey. The series “follows the parallel lives of identical twin brothers in what is described as an epic story of betrayal, sacrifice and forgiveness that is set against the backdrop of 20th century America.”
Aside from Ruffalo leading the film’s central two roles, I Know This Much Is True will also written and directed by Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance. Like Ruffalo, Cianfrance also has an executive producer credit on the series.
Personally I think this news reaffirms that these are very exciting days for HBO. For example, the final season of Game of Thrones is finally coming out next year, as well as the first season of Damon Lindelof’s mysterious new spin on Watchmen!
[Editor’s Note from MFR: If you’ve never seen Ruffalo’s last foray into HBO, The Normal Heart, you are missing out. It’s a gripping, heartbreaking true story about the first wave of the AIDS epidemic in NY in the early 1980s. Riveting stuff. And the cast included Jonathan Groff, Matt Bomer, Julia Roberts, Jim Parsons, and Taylor Kitsch. Just a great movie!]
