THE FLASH Production Slows Down To Tweak The Script, More

Read Time:1 Minute, 48 Second

It’s been a while since fans last heard anything about Ezra Miller’s upcoming untitled The Flash solo film for the DCU. Game Night directing duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein signed on to replace Rick Famuyiwa as the new directors of the film at the start of the year, but since then news was mostly relegated to word that the studio was planning to start production on in the film in early 2019. Unfortunately for fans of Barry Allen, that is no longer the case.

Variety reports that Warner Bros have pushed back the start of production on the untitled The Flash movie. At the moment, the studio is still fine-tuning a script and don’t feel confident in their ability to get it to a level of quality they approve of in time to meet their previous starting date. Further complicating matters is Miller’s other big Warner Bros franchise role.

Currently the third entry in the Fantastic Beasts series is scheduled to begin production next summer, which would cause serious scheduling issues if Miller were to try and juggle both that film and The Flash. So Variety notes that the Flash film is “now expected to commence production in late 2019. That likely means the superhero adventure won’t debut in theaters until some time in 2021.

Personally I have mixed feelings about this news. Obviously it stinks that fans will have to wait longer to see the Flash on the big screen. Having to wait somewhere between three and a half to four years to see Miller’s take on the character again after last year’s Justice League isn’t exactly cheerful news. On the other hand, I think it’s important that Daley and Goldstein really get this film right. If that requires the two take their time a bit, then the extended wait will be worth it.

Our own Mario-Francisco Robles has a wide-eyed conspiracy theory about the true nature of these script tweaks, and you’ll get to hear that a little later on in today’s episode of The Revengers Podcast (subscribe now!).
