New Details Emerge On Upcoming CHUCKY Series

Read Time:1 Minute, 41 Second

Several months ago, word came out that the producers of IT were working on a reboot of 80’s slasher classic Child’s Play. Aside from that film though, it seems that the previous story from the past set of films- the most recent entry being 2017’s Cult of Chucky– will continue on in the form of a new television series seemingly just titled Chucky.

At a recent Screamfest panel hosted by Bloody-Disgusting, the lead team spoke up about their plans on the new show and how it will follow up the events of Cult of Chucky. For instance, longtime franchise writer Don Mancini confirmed that the new show will “introduce new characters and storylines,” adding that they “deliberately ended Cult with a bunch of cliffhangers to set up a TV series. Because there are so many different threads now, television could best accommodate that so that was done intentionally. At the same time, we have a whole new world, a bunch of new characters which we can say nothing about.

Meanwhile, Chucky and Tiffany designer David Kirschner teased that the show will see a return back to the concept of the original Child’s Play, stating, “The only thing I think we can say is from the original film that Don wrote, Child’s Play, we are playing with that concept again, the idea of child’s play. I’ll let you guys fill in the pieces of that.

Perhaps the most intriguing comment though came from Mancini in regards to the franchise’s long history of reinventing itself and how that approach extends into the new show. He stated, “We saw that after seven movies, how can we flip again? So this time not by merely changing genre but by changing medium. This will give us a different kind of canvas, a much bigger canvas to explore characters and relationships.

It’s certainly an interesting approach and I for one hope it works out well for the team!
