Scarlett Johansson Lands An Epic Payday For Marvel’s BLACK WIDOW

Read Time:1 Minute, 51 Second

It’s been a long time coming- or, perhaps, it’s long overdue– but a solo Black Widow movie is finally starting to pick up steam. While we’d heard earlier this year that Marvel Studios had hired Cate Shortland to direct the movie, and there have been rumors about the film’s plot, now is when pen is being put to paper, deals are getting signed, and- we assume- the movie is inching closing to becoming a reality and no longer just an idea that’s being looked at.

The Hollywood Reporter has just revealed that star Scarlett Johansson has snagged herself an impressive payday for her first solo outing as Black Widow, and the reported figure is a staggering $15 Million. That would put her on the same tier as Captain America and Thor actors Chis Evans and Chris Hemsworth, since that’s what they’re said to have earned for Avengers: Infinity War.

This is a big deal because Marvel Studios isn’t known for being quite so generous for the first installments of their solo series, but they clearly came ready to show Johansson the money after playing the role for the last eight years since her debut in 2010’s Iron Man 2.

THR reached out to Marvel for a comment on Johansson’s Black Widow payday, and their response was:

“Marvel Studios disputes the accuracy of these numbers, and as a matter of policy, we never publicly disclose salaries or deal terms.”

One can speculate that the reason they’re being so tight-lipped is so as not to upset other actors like Brie Larson and Chadwick Boseman, who didn’t get nearly that kind of cash for their first movies- Captain Marvel and Black Panther. Both actors are said to have made single-digit millions for their solo debuts- specifically around $2-$5 Million each.

It’s understandable that Johansson would start off way higher than other fresh faces, though, since fans have been clamoring for a solo Black Widow movie for several years now. The appetite for one was probably never higher than it was around the time of Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘s release, but there’s still plenty of reasons to think the film will do quite well when it does eventually arrive.
