Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey has signed on to Guy Ritchie’s Toff Guys. He will star alongside Kate Beckinsale and Crazy Rich Asians‘ Henry Golding.
Here’s more on Toff Guys courtesy of Variety:
The story explores the collision between European ‘old money’ and the modern marijuana industry. It follows a British drug lord attempting to cash out on his highly profitable empire by selling it off to a dynasty of Oklahoma billionaires.
The film is a bit of a return to form for Ritchie. Word is it’s in the vein of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, the “high energy” British crime flicks he started his directing career with.
Ritchie will direct Toff Guys from a script he penned with with Marn Davies and Ivan Atkinson.
I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve never seen Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels or Snatch. I plan on changing that very soon.
I actually went to see Snatch while it was in theaters, or at least I tried to. As my sister and I were waiting for it to start the theater manager came in and told everyone there was an issue with the projector and they were going to have to cancel the show. He then told us they were going to refund our tickets and we were free to go see any other movie playing at that time. Since it was free, and the timing was convenient, we walked into Saving Silverman…It was not the best decision we ever made.
Since then, Silverman and Snatch are forever linked in my mind, which is probably why I’ve never gotten around to seeing Snatch… Needless to say, I will have to fight through the trauma and watch it soon.
Anyway! This is pretty cool news for Toff Guys, isn’t it? Quite a cast, and Ritchie back in his element.
