BAD BOYS FOR LIFE Might Actually Happen

Read Time:1 Minute, 42 Second

Bad Boys 3, or Bad Boys For Life as its been referred to in the past, has been in development since the second one released. It seemed like a sure thing a couple years ago when Joe Carnahan was aboard, and was going to shoot Bad Boys 3 and 4 concurrently. That has been scrapped, but the franchise may still live on.

Variety reports that Sony has a script they are very happy with. The sequel – titled Bad Boys For Life – already has Will Smith attached. While Martin Lawrence has yet to sign on the dotted line, it sounds like he will eventually. They are aiming for a Martin Luther King Holiday Weekend Release in 2020, with production starting as soon as early 2019. Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch commented on the project:

“If we’re going to make another ‘Bad Boys’ after 15 years, it’s got to be next-level great.”

He’s right. It is not exactly a franchise people are clamoring for more of. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I loved the first movie, and thought the second one had a few fun moments, but I was okay with what I had.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Snowfall) will direct the movie, with Chris Bremmer (The Wedding Ringer) tasked with script duties. Panitch seems pretty pleased with the team.

“These guys are amazing,” he said. “They loved the first movies, but they’re not afraid to change things up.”

It’s been a while since Will Smith has been on top of the box office – his home for many summers in the 90s and early 2000s. Projects like After Earth, Collateral Beauty and Bright have failed to resonate with general audiences.

Smith has developed a huge social media presence in the last year or so, and will be appearing in Disney’s live action Aladdin movie, as the legendary Genie. So between that and Bad Boys For Life, Will Smith could very well claim his box office crown once again.

Are you excited for Bad Boys For Life?
