This Year’s ARROWVERSE Crossover Will Be Called ‘ELSEWORLDS’
Chaos is coming. At least, that is what The CW told us when they announced that the Arrowverse crossover would be called “Elseworlds” this year.
We know that the crossover will introduce Batwoman into the world, and that Superman and Lois Lane, (played by Elizabeth Tulloch) will join in on the fun. Then recently, it was announced that Jeremy Davies would play the villain, Dr. John Deegan, a doctor at the Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane. Not only that, but we will see Nora Fries, played by Stephen Amell’s wife, Cassandra Jean Amell. The episodes are already stacked!
The title is curious. We have been introduced to other Earths already. They are common occurrences on The Flash. Supergirl takes place on an Earth different than The Flash and Arrow do. So how is an “Elseworld” different than Earths in the already established “Multiverse”? A new casting announcement might offer some clues.
DC and The CW recently announced that LaMonica Garrett (Designated Survivor) would play “The Monitor”. The CW’s official description says “Garrett will be playing Mar Novu, an extraterrestrial being of infinite power known as the Monitor.”
Entertainment Weekly elaborates on the character:
Created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez for their iconic continuity-altering crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths, the Monitor was an alien being charged with watching over the multiverse (which was then under threat from his dark counterpart, the Anti-Monitor). Later DC crossovers introduced an entire organization of multiversal Monitors.
Maybe they are one and the same. I can see a story where the Monitor is drawn to Earth-1 because of the high number of breaches to other Earths thanks to Cisco. How that ties into Batwoman and Dr. Deegan remains to be seen.
The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl all return in October.
Elseworlds is a three night event starting with The Flash on Sunday, December 9, continuing with Arrow on Monday, December 10, and concluding with Supergirl on Tuesday, December 11. Sadly, the Legends of Tomorrow will not be included in this event.
We will be sure to bring you more Arrowverse news when it releases.
