Watch The Surprisingly Heartfelt New Trailer For BUMBLEBEE

Read Time:1 Minute, 47 Second

The Transformers franchise has been around a long time, and they started making live action movies over a decade ago. Bumblebee is the franchises first spinoff, and the first one not directed by Michael Bay. A brand new trailer for the Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) helmed movie has just been released, and you can watch it below.

I am not a big fan of the franchise. I have nothing against it, I just never got into it. I saw the first movie in theaters, and then I saw the second one on home video, then I lost interest. This movie looks great. It has heart, humor and spectacle, which is a winning combination. There’s a very Iron Giant feel to this.

The very first teaser used a voiceover of Bernie Mac from the first movie, which is just not fair. That won me over instantly. I am actually surprised at the reactions I had from these trailers. If this is the new path that the Transformers franchise is taking, then I might be back on board. The novel idea of having an actual coherent story, instead of just loose threads to string together explosions seems like it will work out well for them.

I’ve been a fan of Hailee Steinfeld since she starred in True Grit. She is well deserving of her own franchise. (By the way, if you haven’t seen Steinfeld’s film The Edge of Seventeen, I highly recommend it). Oh, and she was also one of our picks to play the new, cinematic Supergirl. It will be interesting to see how they handle the prequel thing though, since we know the fate of Bumblebee in the movies.

What do you think of it?

Bumblebee opens this Christmas.

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
