Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross To Score HBO’s Upcoming WATCHMEN Series
Man, HBO are really kicking things up a notch with the team working on their new Watchmen series! Aside from featuring an impressive main cast and even landing the likes of Jeremy Irons for a role in the show, we now know that the music in this movie is going to be absolutely sick. It’s been confirmed that Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross- also known as “David Fincher’s Go-To Duo For Movie Scores“- will be scoring the new show when it hits the small screen sometime in 2019.
Honestly the more I hear about this show, the more excited I get. Say what you will about Damon Lindelof, but he seems to be on the right track in deciding right off the bat not to actually adapt the original Alan Moore graphical novel and instead use this new show as a means of remixing the lore. The world of Watchmen was always rich and full of tiny stories embedded within the cast’s history.
So long as the story is strong and the new characters- and likely also new interpretations of pre-existing characters- are able to resonate with audiences in some form, there’s a good chance that Watchmen can do for the superhero genre on the televised level what Game of Thrones did for fantasy at the start of the decade. Landing the duo that scored critically acclaimed films like The Social Network and Gone Girl is a small, but encouraging sign that Lindelof and his team are on the right track with this.
And hey, even if the show ends up not sitting well with fans, chances are high that Watchmen will still have a ridiculously great soundtrack!
