Bryce Dallas Howard Talks JURASSIC WORLD 3
I’m going to warn you now: There will be spoilers for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom below, so if you haven’t seen it, and you care about that type of thing, go watch the movie and then read this.
I remember when I read Steven Spielberg optioned the rights to Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park. It was way back in the early 90s. There was no internet, so I had to get my movie news from Premiere Magazine or the Entertainment News section of the Philly Inquirer. Wow, print journalism…talk about a dinosaur, am I right?
Spielberg was (and still is) my favorite director, so I ran out and bought Crichton’s book, which I read twice before the movie was released in June of 1993. I saw it five times that summer, and a sixth the following summer ’94 when the dollar cinema ran it again for a few weeks. Jurassic Park went on to become the highest domestic grossing movie of all time and spawned two sequels. After the lackluster Jurassic Park III, the franchise took a break for fourteen years until 2015’s Jurassic World, when the park finally opened for business.
Jurassic World was a massive hit grossing $1.6 billion worldwide, and a new wave of Jurassic films were launched. This summer saw the release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, another billion dollar plus hit, and another Jurassic World film is coming.
According to Bruce Dallas Howard, Jurassic World was always planned as a trilogy. Don’t believe me? Here’s what she told the guys over at ComicBook.com:
“When we started with the first movie, Colin [Trevorrow] who directed the first film, had spoken a lot to Stephen Spielberg about where the story could go over basically three chapters,” Howard said. “We began a little bit with the end in mind. So, we do have a sense of where the story is going, overall.”
Howard then went on to talk about where the third film would go, especially after Fallen Kingdom saw the dinosaurs released into the world at large:
“In a Jurassic movie you’re following three story lines,” Howard said. “There are the human beings, there are the dinosaurs, and there’s the technology. The story of proliferation, the story of dinosaurs being out the in the world but also this technology being out there, the consequence of that, you needed to see that in this movie. I guess, the character of Maisie…showing how there can be an abuse to this technology but in particular and specifically an abuse of this technology that comes from a very human place. Lockwood is someone who was grieving the loss of his daughter and quite literally made her again. She is a human being, no question about it…the same way that these dinosaurs are animals and should have the same rights as any other animal.”
Ehhh, I’m all for animal rights, but I imagine a bunch of dinosaurs would wreak havoc on an ecosystem; so some measures would have to be taken.
What do you think? Should we let the dinosaurs roam free, or should they be corralled and kept separate, assuming that’s even possible?
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom hits Blu-ray September 18, and Jurassic World 3 hits theatres June 11, 2011.
