BOX OFFICE: THE PREDATOR Could Be A Record-Breaker!

Read Time:1 Minute, 42 Second

Variety is reporting early box office predictions between $25 -$32 million for The Predator. The Shane Black helmed release will be the fourth entry in the series, excluding the Alien vs Predator Franchise, and could place the film as the highest opening weekend for the Predator franchise.

The Predator’s only real competition this weekend is Warner Bros The Conjuring Universe’s The Nun, which even with the franchise average second weekend drop of 55%, The Nun will provide some competition to The Predator.

Early screenings have garnered the film mixed to negative reviews. The Predator currently holds a rotten score of 36% with 129 reviews counted. With a less than average score The Predator still has nostalgia and excitement working in its favor along with little to no competition for the next three weeks until Venom’s release. A deciding factor on the success of this film will be its CinemaScore which should see its release sometime this weekend.

It also remains to be seen what impact the recent controversy behind-the-scenes will have on the film’s success. Black have an emotional apology this week after it came to light that he’d hired an actor with a criminal past, thus putting one of his stars- Olivia Munn- in a very uncomfortable situation. The scene containing the actual predator has been cut from the film, but it’ll be interesting to see if this situation ends up hurting people’s interest in The Predator.

“From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home. The universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and an evolutionary biologist can prevent the end of the human race.”
