RUMOR: Jordan Peele To Produce A CANDYMAN Remake

Read Time:1 Minute, 37 Second

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Jordan Peele is on a roll these days. Be it his upcoming Twilight Zone reboot, his new sci-fi anthology series with YouTube or his next feature film Us, the man is keeping himself busy on all sorts of projects. I have to wonder just how many more new projects we’ll see Peele get involved in before the end of the year. According to Bloody Disgusting, it appears that producing a remake of Bernard Rose’s 1992 slasher classic Candyman is now on his “To Do” list too.

While details remain vague on the project, Bloody Disguisting reported the following information:

As for the franchise, it’s been dormant for nearly 20 years. In poking around for a revival screening, I learned that the rights have become available once again. Tri-Star had released the first two films while Artisan was behind 1999’s Day of the Dead. While I’m unsure who is the current rights holder – it may have reverted back to Clive Barker for all I know – I do know that Jordan Peele is in talks to produce a remake of the film through his Monkeypaw Productions. It’s unclear if he plans to direct. Sounds sweets to the sweet to me.

I’m of two minds on that last point, personally. On the one hand, Peele’s proven himself to be a gifted filmmaker and he’d bring a unique perspective to a Candyman remake if he directs the film himself. On the other hand, it could also be a great opportunity for Peele to help other lesser known directors get a chance to shine. Plus Peele’s involvement as a producer would also be quite interesting to see either way.

What do you all think? Would you rather Peele helm the film personally or for him to help produce, while passing the reins off to another director? Be sure to leave a comment below!
