STAR WARS: Oscar Isaac Comments On The Mindset of The Resistance In EPISODE IX
Oscar Isaac plays Poe Dameron in the new Star Wars trilogy. He went through quite a journey in The Last Jedi, from hot head to leader. They are currently filming Episode IX now, and while the Resistance was down and out the last time we saw them, Isaac discusses their current mindset.
In an interview with USA Today, Isaac said:
In the battle against the evil First Order, Isaac thinks it’s easy to forget that the Resistance “are guerrilla fighters, adhering closer to something like the Revolutionary War fighters or even the guerrillas in Cuba with Che and Fidel and all these guys living in the mountains, coming down to do some attacks, and going back and trying to hide from the ’empire’ of the United States. It’s that kind of ragged at this point.”
While that description can sort of explain the Rebels at any juncture in the Saga, Isaac saying “at this point” means it will continue into Episode IX.
He elaborates:
“You hear about stories with (George) Washington as a general, where lots of people died based on their orders,” Isaac adds, “but that is part of leadership and that push-and-pull in the fight for figuring out what’s the way to move forward.”
Poe definitely learned that role due to the events of The Last Jedi. He also mentions that he’d love to see Poe get down and dirty, after all the title of the film has “Wars” in it.
“It is a war movie. I mean, above and beyond, it is a movie about warriors.”
With Carrie Fisher in a limited role due to having to use archive footage, Isaac’s Poe Dameron will be much more front and center in the Resistance. I am interested to see where the events of Episode IX leave him at the end of saga.
What do you want to see from Poe Dameron?
