Arrowverse Stars Comment On This Year’s Character-Focused Crossover

Read Time:2 Minute, 12 Second

Ever since the Arrowverse became more than just Arrow, there have been big annual crossovers, like you would see in the comic books. Last year’s crossover, Crisis On Earth-X was some of the best live action media that DC has ever produced. They are gearing up to do it again, but this year, it will feel a little bit different.

The stars of the Arrowverse sat down with Digital Spy to talk about it. The crossover will introduce Ruby Rose as Batwoman to the universe before she gets her own show. One thing missing though, will be the Legends. Caity Lotz and showrunner Phil Klemmer confirm that the cast of Legends of Tomorrow will not be involved in the crossover.

“We’re not in the crossover this year – Legends are not in them at all,” revealed Caity Lotz, who plays Sara Lance, with Legends showrunner Phil Klemmer explaining: “There’s another show that’s gonna get launched [with Batwoman] and it just became over capacity.”

That is unfortunate, as I love the Legends, and would love to see how they react to Batwoman and Gotham City. But Arrow star Stephen Amell is excited for the crossover, and  commented that it will be more character driven, but that is about all he could say:

“I can’t say sh*t!” he laughed when asked about the top-secret team-up. “But I do know that when it got pitched to me, when Greg [Berlanti, executive producer] pitched it to me, I was like, ‘Oh man, that’s awesome! Really?!’.”

Amell added: “Because we went so big with the crossover last year, you can’t go bigger, so you have to go more about the characters and the story.

The crossovers in the past have been fun, but for the most part, they existed as a spectacle. This time, it seems some real character work will be done.

Supergirl star Melissa Benoist is excited to see how her character will interact with Batwoman.

“Throughout the seasons, Kara’s had a few funny quips about Batman and her opinions on him – she thinks vigilantes are nuts,” she said. “So I’m excited to see her meet Batwoman, and see how they interact.”

I am of the opinion that Batwoman will take place on Supergirl’s Earth. That way she is not the only one. While Bruce Wayne/Batman has been mentioned on both Earths, logistically it makes sense to put her on Supergirl’s Earth. It is about time that Supergirl isn’t the odd person out anymore.

The Arrowverse shows return in October. The crossover is expected to air as the 9th episode of their seasons, so expect it in December.
