Dave Filoni Is Not The Showrunner On STAR WARS: RESISTANCE

Read Time:2 Minute, 39 Second

Dave Filoni is the Godfather of Star Wars Animated Television. He created and ran both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. So when it was announced that he created another show, called Star Wars: Resistance, it was assumed he’d be heavily involved.

That doesn’t seem to be the case however. When talking to IGN, he clarified his role on the show:

Resistance is a bit different, in that I’m not on that day-to-day. I created and set it in motion, but I’ve given that to other people to raise up, people that I’ve worked with a long time, who I think deserve the opportunity to tell stories and I think it’s exciting, and I give them my thoughts and notes – I was just doing that this morning, like George [Lucas] would give me. So that’s fun.”

Filoni’s fingerprints will still be all over Resistance, but for the most part, it will be other people’s stories. That is good in a way – it gives everyone the chance to do other things. Which begs the question, what else is Filoni doing?

The easy answer, is working on the return of The Clone Wars for Disney’s streaming app. That is probably true, but there are only a limited number of new episodes coming, just to “finish” up the series. But could he be working on yet another show?

With the way Rebels wrapped up, it opened the door for more of those characters. When asked if the people running Resistance would use them, Filoni had this to say to ComicBook.com:

“That would be hard. That would be, to be honest. That’d be really hard for me to do at this point, just because I’ve been a part of it for so long. Since, especially, Ahsoka’s beginning, I can’t imagine not being involved in some way with what would happen to her. Or Sabine, for that matter.”

So, if not in Resistance, maybe Sabine and Ahsoka will have their own show, where they search for Ezra?

“I didn’t want something that wrapped up too neatly for Rebels. I wanted this feeling of adventure continuing, and I thought who better to continue the adventure than these two women who were very compelling in both. You know, it’s like a unification of Clone Wars and Rebels, really, taking those two characters further. I have a great deal of ideas on what they’ve been up to, and where they go. It’s really, I think, fantastic.”

With Jon Favreau’s big budget live action Star Wars Show that might take place on Mandalore coming, there is definitely room for Filoni to do something else as well. All of a sudden you would have a slate of Star Wars shows on the app. Which also means they would have my money.

I definitely want to see what Sabine and Ahsoka are up to, so I hope that happens.

But Star Wars: Resistance looks cool too. I will be checking that out.

Do you like that Filoni is letting others have their stamp on the franchise? Or would you rather have him run the show?
