Shane Black has been making The Predator for a while now. He has been tweaking it with script rewrites, and reshoots up until very recently. A casualty of those reshoots however, is Edward James Olmos. He was announced last year as having a role in the film.
While talking with the good folks over at SlashFilm, Olmos says he is no longer in the movie:
“I’m not in the show though,” Olmos said, “It was too long so my character, they had to take me out. They were like half an hour, 3/4 of an hour too long. So I understand why.”
Olmos was set to play a 4 Star General in the military. But the fact that they trimmed 30-45 minutes of the movie can be a good thing. Stream line the story, and get to the point.
There are lots of actors who have filmed things that had to be cut. This is nothing new. But it’s sad that we won’t see a talent like Olmos on the big screen.
Shane Black starred in the original Predator along side Arnold Schwarzenegger. There have been rumors about Schwarzenegger making an appearance in the film. Maybe that is what some of the reshoots have been for. Schwarzenegger is currently filming Terminator 6 right now, so then again, maybe he isn’t available to film a cameo.
The film stars Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Alfie Allen, Thomas Jane, Augusto Aguilera, Jake Busey, and Yvonne Strahovski.
The Predator hits theaters September 14.
From the outer reaches of space to the backwoods of southern Georgia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before. And only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and an evolutionary biology professor can prevent the end of the human race.
