Christopher McQuarrie Talks Potential To Helm DCU Films

Read Time:1 Minute, 50 Second

This weekend marks the opening of the sixth chapter of Mission: Impossible, which is getting rave reviews. Christopher McQuarrie is the only returning director to that franchise. Mission: Impossible – Fallout stars Tom Cruise and Henry Cavill. Cavill, as most know, is also known as Superman in the DCU, while Cruise has actually been rumored to play an older Hal Jordan in Green Lantern Corps.

McQuarrie has enjoyed working with both talents. He has said in the past that he would be open to directing Man of Steel 2, and when talking with ScreenRant, he clarifies his remarks:

To me, I’m interested in a good story. That’s really what it is. I mean, when Man of Steel came up, it was because somebody had asked me, did I want to work with Henry again? Which I would in a second. I go through the door that opens.

McQuarrie likes working with actors he’s worked with previously – all but one of his movies has starred Cruise. He also addresses the rumors that Cruise is circling Green Lantern Corps.

You know, I got to say, Tom and I have never talked about it. We always kind of talk about what we’re working on or what we’re talking about working on next. I think, again, I think if you show them a good story, I think if you showed him a really emotional story, I don’t think, you know, it’s, I can never predict. I can never predict what it is he’s going to be drawn to.

His comments make me feel like Man of Steel 2 is more of a possibility, but who knows. The point is, McQuarrie is open to a DCU project. But it sounds like it is more just to work with Cavill and Cruise again. I have a feeling that after the Box Office this weekend, that Mission: Impossible 7 will be fast tracked, and that could take the time of these three as well.

So if you are a fan of McQuarrie, and a fan of the DCU, you might be in for a treat in the future. If these were both options for McQuarrie, which one would you rather see him do?
