A while back, Kevin Smith made a pilot to a TV show called Hollyweed, which he described as “Clerks in a weed store”. It never got picked up, so Smith shelved it.
But now a new service called Rivit TV launched with the Hollyweed pilot free to watch. After that, well, its up to you if they make more of it. Kevin Smith elaborates:
The part to pay attention to here is this:
“And now, the good folks at @rivit_tv are giving me and my Hollyweed dreams a second chance, as they put the power to green light our little weed sitcom in YOUR hands! Watch the entire 25 minute pilot FOR FREE (link in my bio) and if you like it, help us bring the series to life by pre-buying the next episodes! See the freak show of me trying to act with words and if it remotely amuses you, shower us with the loot to do it again and again!”
You can watch the pilot right here. If you like it, and want more you can select “Greenlight The Show” and pick how much you want to pay per episode.
They are looking for a total of 5,305,264 dollars, which is quite a bit. The show won’t get greenlit until it makes that much and you only have until August 26, 2018 to make that happen. If it doesn’t reach its goal, you will not be charged. So rest assured money will only be taken from you if Hollyweed is successfully greenlit. The most you can pledge is $35.94, while the least is $11.94.
This will be an interesting experiment to see if it is a sustainable method for future television.
So if you are a Kevin Smith fan, or a fan of the er, subject matter, then check out the pilot for free. If you enjoy it, throw them a couple of bucks, and they will make more for you.
Let us know what you thought of the pilot of Hollyweed, and whether you like this model of paying just for the shows you want.
