DOCTOR STRANGE Director Scott Derrickson Quits The SNOWPIERCER Pilot Amidst Turmoil
Snowpiercer was a wonderful movie that came out in 2013, and shortly after that plans for a TV series went into motion over on TNT. Josh Friedman was hired as showrunner, and Scott Derrickson signed on to direct the pilot, and maybe more episodes in the future.
But then Friedman was not involved with the show anymore. While TNT sited “creative differences”, Friedman insists that is not the case.
I didn't "exit" over creative differences. TNT insisted that I be removed from show running duties because they didn't think I'd be compiant. Hopefully they found someone more to their liking.

New showrunner Graeme Manson took over, and things seemed back on (train) tracks.
Then on Friday, Derrickson announced on Twitter that he has left the project as well.
The 72-page Snowpiercer TV pilot script by @Josh_Friedman is the best I’ve ever read. The feature-length pilot I made from that script may be my best work.
The new show runner has a radically different vision for the show. I am forgoing my option to direct the extreme reshoots.

Reshoots are happening, to make the pilot more to Manson’s and TNT’s liking. Derrickson will not be involved.
Nowadays, it is weird writing a story like this that doesn’t involve a Star Wars movie. But it happens to lots of different properties. No word on who will replace Derrickson on Snowpiercer yet, but I’m sure someone will come aboard relatively soon.
I am a huge fan of the original film, and would very much like to see what Friedman and Derrickson had planned. Unless Friedman releases the script online, we may never know.
On the other hand, I am still curious what Snowpiercer will look like in its current form. Maybe it will turn out just fine.
The TV show will loosely follow the movies plot:
The movie takes place aboard the globe-spanning Snowpiercer train which holds the last remnants of humanity after an attempt at climate engineering in order to stop global warming has unintentionally created a new Snowball Earth. Evans stars as Curtis Everett, a member of the lower-class tail section passengers as they lead a revolution against the elite of the front of the train.
Chris Evans is not returning to the TV show (nor is anyone from the cast of the film). Instead, Hamilton star Daveed Diggs will star along side Jennifer Connelly.
Are you bummed that Derrickson is no longer involved? Who should replace him?
