ARROW’s 7th Season Will Put Oliver’s Back Against The Wall With A Premise Reminiscent of SUPER MAX
When the sixth season of Arrow ended, it was on a somber note. Oliver Queen revealed his identity to the world, before going to prison. Now a synopsis from Warner Bros Television released for San Diego Comic Con (thanks to Comicbook.com) has provided some insight into what to expect:
“There has been no shortage of close calls for Oliver Queen when it comes to protecting his Super Hero identity, but in the season six finale, he was finally backed into a corner and forced to reveal himself to the world as the Green Arrow. Now, Oliver will come face-to-face with many of the criminals he placed behind bars, as he makes a new home for himself at Slabside Maximum Security Prison. Oliver will find himself vulnerable in a way unlike ever before when a mysterious new enemy begins to unravel his work as Green Arrow, challenging him to redeem his name or risk losing everything.”
Let’s pause here for a minute. Back about a decade ago, it was announced that David S. Goyer was going to write a movie called Green Arrow: Escape From Super Max. It never really got off the ground, then four years later this TV show happened instead. The synopsis for Super Max is that Oliver Queen is framed for murder, and gets put in a Super Max prison after his identity as the Green Arrow was revealed at the trial. He has to deal with villains he has put away, while using some of them to try and escape. If this interests you, ScreenRant has a breakdown on what the movie would have been.
Sound familiar? It very much seems like season 7 of Arrow will have an adaptation of this movie script. I doubt that Oliver Queen will be in prison the entire season, so it could be a truncated version, but the ramifications of his prison stay will play throughout the season, it seems.
While the synopsis does tease a new “big bad,” Ricardo Diaz and The Longbow Hunters will still be in play in some form it seems as well. So Team Arrow is going to have their hands full.
So what do you think of the vague synopsis? Was it enough to get you excited for the upcoming season?
The seventh season of Arrow premieres on its new night, Monday October 15, at 8/7C only on The CW.
